Curriculum
Our program's strength lies in our diverse faculty, who hope to foster a skill set or location of interest depending on the fellow. We want to guide and support fellows as they find their purpose in global health.
Masters in Public Health
Masters in public health will be in conjunction with the University of Michigan Online MPH. This program is currently focusing on strengthening fellows' global health focus with additional coursework and electives.
Disaster Course
Fellows will attend either the Harvard Response Intensive Course or the Hopkins Health Emergencies in Large Populations during their first year.
Tropical Medicine
The Infectious Disease Department at Wayne State University has a formal collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine for the development of curriculum and training of fellows. There is a strong working relationship with CHC-Vellore hospital in Vellore India. We will send fellows for a two week intensive tropical medicine course with didactics and clinical experience. http://www.cmctropmed.com/
Ultrasound
Fellows in the Global & Urban EM Fellowship will work closely with the Ultrasound Fellowship at DMC for basic ultrasound training, as well as for projects internationally. Fellows will attend regular sessions with US fellows throughout the fellowship.
Research
The DMC Department of Emergency Medicine has a strong focus on clinical research with a well supported and staffed department. Fellow will attend the Global Health Research Workshop at IBio to help the development of research projects.
Annual Conference
Fellows will assist in organizing and planning a yearly conference in partnership with the WSU Global Health Alliance.
Language
Fellows will be encouraged to improve language skills in a language of their choosing. This will be self-directed, but library resources are available.
Travel Safety
Fellows will be required to demonstrate proficiency in riding a motorbike and manual transmission automobile during their fellowship. These are beneficial skills to have abroad for safety.
