Another Successful Year at the Detroit Free Press Marathon Presented by TCF Bank

Dr. Erin Brennan
Medical Director,
Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon

I would like to congratulate Dr. Erin Brennan, not only on another tremendously successful Detroit Free Press Marathon presented by TCF Bank this past weekend, but also while doing so with the largest Marathon field ever with over 26,000 runners and implementing a more modern medical response inline with other large Marathons across the country!  This included 7 first aid stations strategically located along the course with monitor/pacer/defibrillator, ACLS drugs, airway, mass casualty hemorrhage control kits, first aid, and basic medications capability all staffed with physician(s) and other heath care providers.  There were 9 roving medical golf cart teams between the first aid stations staffed by medics and/or nurses equipped with AEDs, airway capability, mass casualty hemorrhage control kits, basic first aid, and basic medications.  There was also a physician at the start/finish line with a resuscitation tent with a monitor/pacer/defibrillator, airway capability and ACLS drugs, along with 10 runners with wheel chairs to rapidly transport those in need to medical care at Med Central.  And lastly a large Med Central station equipped with 2 resuscitation bays, with monitor/pacer/defibrillator, iStats, ultrasound machines, ACLS drugs, airway capability, mass casualty hemorrhage control kits, advanced first aid, comprehensive medication supply, just to name a few of the capabilities.  Only one person was transported to the hospital, rest were treated at the event.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Brennan, and to quote Dr. Sweeny, "take a bow Dr. Brennan!"

Thank you again for a fantastic job!
