Guatemala

Our International Emergency Medicine Program has been working in Guatemala since 2016 to develop Emergency Medicine as a new specialty in the country. Our Assistant Program Director, Dr. Daniel Ridelman, himself a Guatemalan native and the ACEP Deputy Ambassador in Guatemala, has been involved in the creation of the first EM program, the first EM Conference (held April 2th to 28th, 2017) and the future EM association (www.agme.org.gt and www.twitter.com/A_G_M_E), among other exciting initiatives. We have collaborated with Guatemalan medical schools, the Ministry of Health, the Social Security Health System, public and private hospitals, and the College of Physicians, as well as US institutions like the University of Pennsylvania, CDC, EMRA, the US Embassy and ACEP International. We are overall very optimistic and excited about the future of EM in Guatemala, and feel it's a fantastic opportunity for Spanish speaking physicians and students to get involved in.
